Hope this can somehow be expanded to include all Dell laptop models with hinge issues.ĭon't know if this is useful but I saw you ask other commenters about different models, and my new laptop is an MSI gaming laptop like one of them mentioned. I don't have the ability or resources to be a lead plaintiff so I gave up on getting any kind of compensation for it and just decided to stop buying anything Dell. I had been looking for any kind of lawsuit for months but nobody had ever started one, and had only found about 30 other people with the problem, I assume because partly because it wasn't such a popular model. I never bothered to contact support about it because everyone else with the same problem who contacted support said that they insisted that it was caused by user negligence. It was so bad to the point I just bought a new laptop because the hinge kept cracking open the case whenever I opened the lid. After taking it apart and looking at both hinges it is obvious that the right one is much weaker than the left and that this problem is pretty much guaranteed to happen at some point with this inherent design flaw. Why does this only apply to a specific series? I had an Inspiron 5547 a few years ago and the right hinge got so bad it busted right out of the case, completely cracking off the plastic from the rest of the case and even ended up busting off one of the case screws, and I think eventually it even busted off the screw on the left side too. It has the link for the class action lawsuit investigation form. If you are already in the process of filing a class action regarding this same issue, please let me know via private message. We just need a rough estimate of how widespread this issue is. Note: I cannot guarantee that this class action lawsuit will go through. The worst thing a company can do is not stand behind their products. It is very unfortunate this has to be done. If you know anyone with the same issue, please redirect them to this post.
